Turn-Based Press is a fine art printshop located in downtown Miami, Florida.
Turn-Based Press promotes the culture of prints, artists’ books and works-on-paper, supports those artists whose focus it is to create works falling within those categories, educates both artists and the general public about that culture as well as printmaking and book arts techniques, and helps artists better be able to support themselves through the creation of multiples by both contract editioning and self-printed impressions at daily, weekly or bi-weekly rental rates.
Turn-Based Press also has a gallery space and has exhibited the work of over 80 local artists since 2013. Of those, 80% are from the South Florida region, and 57% of the total number are women. Exhibiting artists have been of diverse ages and points in their careers, and the majority of artworks exhibited have been prints, works on paper, or artists’ books. The Press has hosted works on paper and print sales from which it takes no commission from artist sales, offered public demonstrations of printmaking techniques and book binding, offered workshops for children and adults, and as teacher training opportunities.
The Turn-Based Press production facilities include three Charles Brand Etching (flatbed) presses, a vertical etching tank for ferric chloride (copper plate intaglio), a nearly 4’ x 8’ exposure table for screenprinting, a washout sink that has a five-foot-wide capacity (and over 6’ height capacity), 4’ x 8’ glass inking tables, 4’ x 8’ Lexan-topped screenprinting tables with hinge clamps, silkscreens of various sizes, two large (18” length) rubber inking rollers, flat files, anti-fatigue mats and three smaller glass-topped inking tables.
